Bruce C. Steele
Bruce Steele   Bruce has been at the forefront of the gay press since the early 1990s, when he was an early contributor to OutWeek magazine, a new kind of gay publication closely associated with ACT UP and uniting gay men and lesbians in its reporting on AIDS and LGBTQ issues facing New York City and the nation. In 1992, he joined the staff of Out magazine before its launch, serving as Managing Editor, Executive Editor and West Coast Editor. After a brief stint at the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center at the time of Matthew Shepard’s attack and death, Bruce joined The Advocate as the Executive Editor, becoming Editor in Chief in 2003. For more than three years, he fought to retain the magazine’s focus on news and the quiet heroics of ordinary LGBTQ Americans. He is now an openly gay editor at the Asheville Citizen-Times. Bruce is also Christopher Oakley’s life partner.
