Anthony has been an out actor on stage and screen for most of his life and is a strong advocate for LGBTQ rights.  Probably best known for originating the role of Mark in the musical phenomenon “Rent,” and for reprising that role in the film version, Anthony has taken on challenging roles his entire career and put his own unique stamp on them. It was his public thank you to his partner in a Playbill for the Broadway production of “Six Degrees of Separation” that first brought him to the attention of the gay press. He has been just as public about his private life ever since, using his popularity with younger audiences in particular to advocate for equality in schools and on college campuses nationwide. He has given his time and support to countless LGBTQ fundraisers, campaigns and causes, as well as to the many fans, queer and straight, who seek him out. Anthony is also a best-selling author and accomplished singer.
